For those of you in the New England area, make sure you drop by Boston Comic Con this weekend and support your local talent and the local comics scene. I'd hate to see the show disappear. Last year it was PACKED and sold out. The lines were long, so get there early. I may attend on Saturday. If I do attend I will be sitting with the folks from Hero Envy in Artist Alley. I'm very excited, because I just started compiling drawings for my 2011 Sketchbook. I'm not sure when I will have enough content ready, but my art of the week blog, various pinups and social network requests have kept me busy doodling and drawing. Good times. I just want to thank everyone for helping out with ideas, giving me jobs and inspiring me. I was surprised at how many pages I already have available that I've already scanned in to share with you via "art of the week." I'll be going through all my sketchbooks to find chicken scratch and random doodles to include in the book as well. Hopefully many of you are as excited about it as I am.

In the past few months I have start building shelves, reorganizing, finishing bits and pieces and cleaning up my studio to help me get more motivated to produce work. It has helped considerably. I just decided that my studio is too dark and I need to ad some flare to various parts by adding some lighter colors. I am going to start this process by adding a focal corner to the studio where I can also hang up my guitars and relax. Here are some pics now. Not sure what I'll add to the area. Robot arms? A pattern? Who knows!? Can't wait until it is done.

I haven't thought much about branding since our small publishing company, SUMM Publications. Back then I thought A LOT about how we would look and be perceived by the fans. Now that I'm off on my own and running around trying to sell my work I need to start branding myself more. Sure, everyone considers me the "Robot Guy". But if they walked by my booth would they immediately know I'm there? Probably not. So I'm taking 2011 by the horns and designing a five foot tall banner to have at my tables. Whether I'm hanging out with Hero Envy, Joe Caramagna, Andrew Edge or the various other comic folk I share tables with, you'll know I'm there. You've got to love the latest coolest things. People can now generate bar codes which can then be scanned by smart phone apps to take them to webpages and other media. I just generated this bar code for my website. You are already here and reading, but maybe you followed one of these bar codes to my site!

Here we go again. Jason wants graphic novels, but my library doesn't have them. I'm sending in my order for some Doug DenNapel graphic novels. Dough is the creator of Earth Worm Jim and a slew of graphic novels. You'd think I'd find one quick, but no such luck. Let's hope I have time to read by the time they get here. I've been waiting over a month for the last book I put on order from the libraries. 

Having the option to order books like this is awesome, but for a family man like myself, it becomes difficult to juggle when to order, when they'll be here and whether or not I'll have time to read them in between magazine illustrations, comic book color, web design and much much more. Hopefully I'll be able to quickly digest these two books and put up my thoughts. I'm very excited to read them. I think they will be great inspiration fodder for my brain.

I have been put on the list as one of the many talented artists that will be piling into Sarge's Comics on May 7, 2011. There will be many free comics jumping off the shelves as well as local comic book artists who would like to sell you some of their goodies. I will be offering up some FREE ROBOT SKETCHES to all the kids that attend. YES! FREE!! I will also be selling comics and original artwork. 

I attended Free Comic Book day last year as a patron and was impressed by Sarge's performance. I was greeted by Darth Vadar and a slew of imperial stormtroopers, speeder bike piolets and more. There was a HUGE display of free comics and TONS of local artists. I was amazed at the sheer number of folks that came down to support Sarge's on such a momentous day. Please come down, bring a friend, bring the kids, bring a pile of money and support your local comic culture. It is indeed Free Comic Book day, but remember that your local comic shop is providing this day to get you jazzed up and get into reading. Reading is important kids so grab some goodies and have a good time!!

As Spring draws closer and the weather gets warm, I'm reminded that Free Comic Book Day is closing in! What is free comic book day you ask?? Well! It is exactly what it sounds like. Head on down to your local comic book shop and choose from a wide variety of free comics! AND! often, the comic shop owners talk a bunch of local artists to come down, do free sketches, sell books, meet and greet and all sorts of other fantastic things. Last year, my family and I were greeted by Darth Vader and a pile of his troopers. Good stuff for everyone. Stay tuned, I'm going to try and make an appearance at one of my local shops.
