I spend a lot of my time doing commercial freelance work- mostly for comic books, clothing and skateboard decks. All of these items are usually mass produced and printed in some factory in an unknown location designated by my clients. Recently, I was contacted by a previous client who was interested in my fine art illustration services.
This is one of those special occasions where a client asks if they can hire me to create whatever I want with little to know input in terms of inspiration. That allows me to create artwork that is made with pure inspiration in that moment. While I often do a lot of planning, due to my rigorous commercial illustration regiment, creating this type of art flows freely from my imagination and is not bound by any restrictions. In the coming month or two I am excited to share the progress of this particular project.
For now, I will get you all started with an image of my "canvases" being primed. I'll explain more in a later post. Be sure to drop by my Instagram profile to find snippets of speed painting and planning which I will be including in my Story.
Generally, I only take commissions when they are open, but now and then a previous client will contact me when my commissions are closed with an interesting project. I'm very excited to be working on this project and really enjoy taking the time to work on such a piece in between my commercial jobs.
